MY PHILOSOPHY
My fitness philosophy in a nutshell:
Working with hundreds of people in the health and exercise field, I consider myself more of a fitness therapist than a CPT. I observe often that the ones not hitting their goals aren’t the members who have trouble getting to the gym, but the ones who treat fitness and sweat sessions as a punishment for Indulging or missing a workout or two. This is not the way to live. For me, movement whether it be lifting,or a simple walk, serves as a prescription mentally and physically. And if one side feels good, usually the other does as well.
I currently do not have many letters after my name 😉 But I am currently studying and researching the behavioral and habitual changes fitness can make in a persons life.
The mental: in the health and fitness world, when you hear someone say, “it’s all mental,” we all know it’s really not. But STARTING surely is. On a scale of 1-10, How bad do you want to achieve your goal? Your performance and results have a direct correlation to your mental drive. Most people start at a 10, get started and are super pumped, and then a month later dwindle at a 5. Soon after that, they quit. Goal is still there, mental drive is not. Why the hell does this always happen? It becomes too complicated with all the distractions of media and self comparison, advertising, and daily routines that make us feel we don’t have the time or it’s outright impossible. Well, I’m here to tell you, EVERYBODY has the time to improve their health and ANYTHING is possible.
Routine and Goals: If you need to lose 50lbs, you can. If you just had your third baby and you want to compete in your first fitness competition , you can. All goals are 100% attainable if you go in with realistic expectations.
The simpler the better: I don’t believe cutting certain foods out or deriving ourselves of things we enjoy. I believe it all starts with habit and having a healthy relationship with both food and fitness. The ultimate goal is to be HAPPY and Iive the most fulfilled and rich life we can. For example, you travel to Paris and you don’t eat the bread and cheeses. Or you do and you beat yourself up about it. When you get back, that is ALL you remember and not the gorgeous scenery or moments.
Treating your hour at the gym like a doctors appointment is where I start with you. When it’s on your calendar, it is a priority, and you get it done. When we look at its importance like that, our habits start to shift.
Patience- like all good things, goals take TIME. Rome was not built in a day. But I’m sure there were moments along the way where the builders took a step back to admire the beauty in each stage and how far they have come. Beauty and confidence building at every milestone. Life just keeps getting better.
Starting isn’t the hardest part, making it a habit for life is. There is no finish. Whether you’re new to the fitness scene, or have been at it for awhile and keep getting stuck, I got you!
